About the event
Join us as we tour the Greenhouse and Vegetable Garden on Saturday, April 18, 2026, from 10:00 – 12:00 pm. The Presidents Park Greenhouse (PPG) was built in 2009 and in 2014 transitioned into a site for year-round food production. The staff at the PPG produce approximately 1,000 lbs. of fresh lettuce and salad greens annually that are served weekly right next door at Ike's dining hall. The remaining herbs, fruits and veggies are donated to the community through the Produce Pick-Ups, where anyone can sign up to receive free produce, as supplies last.
Our tour will consist of a greenhouse tour which covers hydroponics, aquaponics, and the history of the greenhouse. The tour will also include science behind fertilizers, pH, and worm bin composting, plus a hands-on activity of propagating houseplants which will allow everyone to take one home after they have potted it.
